The performance of the Piikkisika W384 TLR is based on carefully designed studding and tread pattern, aimed at keeping as many studs in contact with the ground as possible at all times. The tyre features 384 crown-shaped carbide studs with aluminium bodies, whose protrusion has been optimised to improve ice grip. The stud layout ensures consistent grip during braking, cornering, and straight-line riding, without sudden changes in handling.

The tyre’s tread is progressive and relatively fast, allowing it to perform reliably not only on ice but also in snow and mixed conditions. Rectangular tread blocks effectively support the studs and keep them securely in place under heavy loads. The stud bases are cast into the tread surface during manufacturing, improving stud retention and reducing the risk of them coming loose during long-term use.

The aramid-reinforced foldable bead construction enables tubeless installation and gives the tyre a modern combination of lightness and durability. The nylon-reinforced centre belt and reinforced sidewalls improve puncture protection and casing stability. The construction is e25-compatible and suitable for electric mountain bikes with assistance up to 25 km/h. The non-toxic rubber compound developed for winter use retains its flexibility in freezing conditions and supports grip in cold conditions. The tyre is manufactured in Finland for northern winter conditions.
