Grips provide cyclists with an important connection to the handlebars, affecting both control and riding comfort. On mountain bikes, grips are most often secured with one or two lock rings, and are usually 30–33 mm thick. Thicker grips suit larger hands and longer rides, while thinner ones offer more precise control for smaller hands.
Grips are available in a variety of colors and materials, and their wear should be checked regularly. Keeping the ends of the grips intact and avoiding exposed handlebar ends are important for safety. Well-chosen, well-maintained grips make riding controlled, comfortable, and safe on all kinds of terrain.
