Forefront 3 MIPS Helmet
Whether you're riding smooth singletrack trails or challenging technical descents, the Smith Forefront 3 mountain bike helmet offers more protection than ever before. A fully internal, injection-molded safety cage, extended rear protection, and an Mips® safety system integrated directly into the helmet's padding ensure both better protection and comfort.
Ventilation ports that improve airflow (25% more ventilation), a micro-adjustable BOA® adjustment system, and full KOROYD® protection make the helmet both safe and extremely comfortable. When you start to sweat on the climbs or prepare for a descent, 20 ventilation ports and AirEvac™ ventilation help keep your goggles fog-free.
The adjustable visor makes it easy to store your goggles between laps, and sunglasses can be safely tucked into the front or back of the helmet for storage.

TOP-TIER PROTECTION FOR THE FUTURE
Koroyd® offers better energy attenuation, design flexibility, and more efficient ventilation than traditional helmet materials. Its cylinders form a uniformly collapsing "crumple zone" in an impact, which absorbs force effectively and lightly.
Koroyd® cylinders do not work like a spring that stores and releases energy, but rather crush and convert kinetic energy, making them a true energy absorber. This gives your head better protection in an impact situation.
State-of-the-Art Impact Absorption
When an impact occurs, Koroyd tubes collapse immediately and evenly, absorbing the impact in a controlled manner and reducing the energy transferred to the head.
Full Breathability and Cooling
Air circulates freely through the open structure and heat can escape, which ensures effective cooling even during the toughest rides.
Extreme Lightness and Comfort
Tubes made from some of the world's thinnest walls form a structure that is 95% air – this reduces weight and improves comfort without compromising safety.

MIPS®
MIPS® – Extra Brain Protection in the Helmet
MIPS® (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is a brain protection system designed to reduce the rotational motion on the head caused by angled impacts. It is placed inside the helmet, usually between the comfort pads and the EPS foam (impact-absorbing foam).
Angled impacts can cause rotational motion on the brain, which increases the risk of mild and severe brain injuries. The MIPS® system reduces this motion by directing and dispersing impact forces that would otherwise be directed straight at the brain.
How Does MIPS® Work?
At the core of the MIPS® system is a low-friction layer that allows the head to move 10–15 mm in different directions inside the helmet at the moment of impact. This motion reduces the rotational motion on the brain and makes the helmet safer.
Stress on Brain Tissue
The rotational motion caused by an angled impact can cause brain tissue stretching and tearing, which is visible in laboratory tests. The effect of the MIPS® system has been measured with test dummies exposed to angled impacts in a MIPS laboratory in Sweden.
The same helmet model – without MIPS® and with MIPS® – shows a clear difference: MIPS® significantly reduces stress on the brain.
Tested for Real-World Situations
Most brain injuries are caused by angled impacts, but traditional helmet tests are performed with vertical drops, which do not match realistic accidents. MIPS® has developed its own testing equipment that simulates angled impacts – like those that occur in cycling accidents.
