Description
Shimano 105 CS-HG700-11 11–34T 11-speed cassette
The Shimano 105 CS-HG700-11 11–34T is a versatile 11-speed cassette for road, gravel, cyclocross, and touring bikes. The wide 11–34T gear range provides easier gearing for long climbs, loaded riding, and variable routes, while still maintaining a gear range suitable for road use on flatter sections.
The CS-HG700-11 is a great choice for cyclists looking to upgrade to an 11-speed Shimano drivetrain with more climbing capability without a gear spread that feels too wide or like a mountain bike. The 34-tooth largest sprocket makes steep hills, slow climbs on gravel roads, and fatigue during long rides more manageable. The smallest 11-tooth sprocket, in turn, maintains a gear ratio high enough for fast-paced riding.
The cassette uses Shimano's HG-EV design and is compatible with Shimano HG-X 11-speed chains. Precisely shaped sprockets help keep shifting smooth, quiet, and reliable when the cassette is used with a compatible Shimano 11-speed rear derailleur, shifter, and chain.
Shimano CS-HG700-11 - specifications and compatibility
The Shimano CS-HG700-11 11–34T is a particularly practical cassette because it is widely compatible with different wheelsets and configurations. Shimano states that the cassette is compatible with both 10- and 11-speed freehub bodies. The included removable spacer allows for correct installation on different freehub types.
When installing on an 11-speed road HG freehub, the included 1.85 mm spacer is generally used before the cassette. For a 10-speed / MTB-style HG freehub, the spacer is usually not used. Final installation depends on the hub and freehub being used, so it is recommended to ensure proper clearance and lockring tightening during installation.
The cassette is intended for use with a GS cage, or medium cage, rear derailleur. In many Shimano 105, Ultegra, GRX, and Tiagra 11-speed configurations, the 11–34T cassette requires the GS version of the rear derailleur, not the short SS cage.
